Welcome back to The Witching Hour! For Season 6, we’ve got a new DJ, a new time, a new website, new fans, and loads of new content! Although we were sad to see Mehera depart from our live shows, we now welcome our newest DJ, Anu, as well as a younger crowd of fans that may not know wizard rock as well as our long-time fans. It’s been a while!
After the social media mania that was LeakyCon 2012, we’ve kind of left our dear readers hangin’. We’re so sorry about that. We love and miss you all very much. There’s just this thing called Mehera’s moving to China today, Claire’s studying abroad in Spain, and well Sara’s primary excuse is her job.
Also, while we’re all apart, The Witching Hour is currently off the air. That’s right, for the first time since January 2010, TWHis not playing on KWCW 90.5 FM Walla Walla. Which means those magical moments in the studio aren’t getting converted into podcasts for all our beautiful fans in Kentucky, Slovenia and beyond.
But it’s not the end! Keep brewing those Pottermore potions, reading those new copies of The Casual Vacancy and reblogging those COS gifs. Because Claire will be back for you in a few short months, and 2/3 of us have already signed up for Leaky 2013 in Portland. (Meet us there?)
In the past we’ve discussed doing more mixtapes or starting a vlog. We don’t want to make too many promises, but I (Sara) would definitely enjoy doing so if we can find the time, and if you wizards are interested.
So keep those chins up and those wands at the ready. You don’t want to lose your buttocks while we’re away.

On tap this week is ancient magic, that is, magic of a most powerful sort! We discuss (and ultimately, ask a lot of unanswerable questions about) the kinds of magic that are either extremely old, extremely powerful, performed without wands or all of the above. We touch on ancient beasts like dragons and basilisks, as well as enchantments such as blood sacrifice, life debts, Dumbledore’s protections over Harry while he lives at the Dursley’s and more! It’s a really diverse bunch of music, so enjoy. Unfortunately we ran out of time at the end and couldn’t fully discuss Unbreakable Vows, Hallows or Horcruxes, so maybe we’ll have to save those for another time.

HALLOWEEN, 2011, is the 30th deathday of James & Lily Potter. Wow.
So, uh, yeah. This is a bit belated, too. This past Halloween was the 30th anniversary of Harry’s parents death, so we took the opportunity to remember them, while also enjoying the good parts of October 31—the feasts, the bludgeoning of a troll, the opening of the Chamber of Secrets, the moment Harry became the 4th Hogwarts champion, and so on.
This was our first chance to actually have our show on Halloween, so that was pretty exciting too!
